Would Chicago Bears trade trade former No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky? The team recently traded a fourth-round pick to the Jaguars for veteran quarterback Nick Foles. After that rumors began to swirl about Trubisky’s future. The signal-caller has made 41 starts for the Bears over his first three seasons in the league but he struggled last year.
Jeff Hughes of DaBearsBlog and Bill Zimmerman of Windy City Gridiron believe that a Trubisky trade is possible. Per Zimmerman, Trubisky would help the Bears get a conditional sixth-round draft pick at best. This based on what the Redskins gave up to acquire Kyle Allen from the Panthers.
I do think that the Bears will give Trubisky a chance to keep his job. The team passed on Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson in the 2017 NFL Draft in favor of Trubisky. Not only that but they actually sent a No. 3 overall pick, the 67th and 111th picks and a 2018 third-round pick to move up and take Trubisky with the No. 2 pick. I don’t see them trading him, they will likely let him fight for the starting job with Nick Foles.
Trubisky has never has real competition at quarterback. Mike Glennon was benched after just four games in 2017 and Trubisky took over under center since. Chase Daniel backed him up but he didn’t challenge Trubisky. Foles will. Maybe Foles can help light a fire on Trubisky. The other reason why he won’t be traded is because his regression last year possibly made teams decide to stay away from him.
