Monday, 27th of July, was supposed to be the fourth day of the Third Test Match between England and visitors West Indies, but unfortunately, there was no play as a heavy downpour came upon the pitch in the Manchester region of England.
The match was canceled, and both teams would have to wait till Tuesday, Day 5, to know who gets to keep the Wisden Trophy. England tied the score last week after as Ben Stokes helped his side finish with a 113-run victory.
The rain started in the morning and took all the time of the first innings. There was a bit of hope in the afternoon after the rain seized, and the ground staff got to work, setting things in place until the rain returned, about an hour later, as heavy as before. The players and everyone involved in the match waited till it was 4 PM before all agreeing that the day was over.
So far, England seems to be winning after getting 4 wickets in 4 overs in the morning alone from Stuard Broad, on day 3. Broad has made 8 wickets so far in this match. Now they need just 8 wickets and 98 overs to win the Test, ahead of West Indies by 388 runs.
Windies, however, managed to make only 6 wickets throughout the day. Still, they have the upper hand as they can simply end Tuesday in a draw and win the Test, whereas England needs to win. The tourists would begin their Tuesday with 10 for 2 needing 399 runs.
Broad has made 499 cricket Test appearances and would have completed to 500 today, but the rain smeared the possibility, pushing it till Tuesday. Already, the weather forecast for Tuesday shows things would be fair. Both sides now need a bit of luck to emerge victorious.
