The 2026 Formula 1 calendar is bringing a new race to Europe. Madrid will host a grand prix for the first time, joining Barcelona as the second venue for a grand prix in Spain. The inclusion of Madrid in next year’s schedule does not affect the number of races, as the Emilia Romagna GP will be dropped from the calendar.
The Madrid GP was likely added to the calendar to be the new venue in Spain after the contract for the Barcelona GP ends next year. There is no word as of now on whether they will be renewing it.
According to the current draft of the calendar, the Madrid GP will be held from September 11 to 13 and will be the last race in Europe before the end of the season. Other changes to the calendar include a two-week gap between the Chinese and Japanese races, compared to one week from this year.
The Canadian GP will move to the fourth weekend in May, between the Miami and Monaco GP. Australia will continue as the venue for the first race of the year. Towards the end of the season, there are two triple-headers between October and December.
The 2026 season is already shaping up to be one of Formula 1’s most significant in years, with major changes expected, including new manufacturers, updated regulations, a new venue, and a revamped race calendar. F1 President Stefano Domenicali already described the season as an unforgettable one and a historic year for the sport.
