Verstappen Has Led More Laps Than Other Drivers This Season

Max Verstappen currently leads the drivers’ standing after coming second in the Turkish Grand Prix.

The Dutch driver has been very exceptional this season and looks poised to win his first World Championship. But his prowess is not only evident in his leading the drivers’ standings. Formula 1 has revealed that Verstappen has led more laps than all the other drivers put together. As at the end of the Turkish GP, Verstappen has led a total of 469 laps while the other drivers have led 465 altogether.

This statistic is more than impressive. It just shows how on-point Verstappen has been. Even in races that he did not win, he led most of the laps. The other drivers that have led 465 laps include Lewis Hamilton. Even though he and Verstappen have won the most races this season, with one displacing the other at the number one spot in the drivers’ standing, he is nowhere close to Verstappen when it comes to most laps led, even though he has more than half of the 465 laps shared by the remaining drivers.

Verstappen continues to be formidable this season. With six more races to go, he has all it takes to win a World Championship. He would, however, face stiff competition from his Mercedes rival, who has more experience. With the new engine change, which forced him to take a penalty going into the Turkish GP, Hamilton is expected to perform much better, even though he finished fifth on Sunday. The only place where Mercedes currently leads is the team standings.

For Verstappen, he just has to maintain his pace. Already he has admitted that he is not under any form of pressure to win the World Championship, which is a good thing. He has also called on his team to ‘step up’ if they plan to beat Mercedes for both titles this season.
