After winning two consecutive victories over Anthony Joshua, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk has declared that the undisputed heavyweight title fight with Tyson Fury must be made. The bout, which would determine the first undisputed heavyweight champion in more than two decades, is currently being discussed.
Usyk, who currently holds the WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight titles, stated that “both of us need this fight,” as it would be crucial for both fighters. Fury, on the other hand, holds the WBC belt, which means that the winner of this fight would hold all four belts.
Usyk, who was previously an undisputed champion at cruiserweight, is confident that he can repeat the feat at heavyweight, even against Fury. He stated that he is “not afraid of Tyson Fury” and that this fight would be like any other. Usyk also remarked that he is undaunted by the prospect of facing Fury, as he has been told by critics that he could not become an Olympic or world champion, but he persisted and achieved both accolades.
Usyk also revealed that he is inspired by his country’s fight against Russian invasion. He served in the Ukrainian defense force at the beginning of the all-out war last year and now represents Ukraine through his sport. He stated that he is boxing “for everyone who is defending our country right now and in the memory of those warriors who are no longer with us,” and also “for all those who want to be free and who stood for their country against those who came to conquer us.”
Usyk acknowledged that Fury would be a formidable opponent, stating that “he has a different style” and is “more audacious” than Joshua. However, he remains focused on the task at hand and confident in his abilities.
The possibility of Usyk fighting Fury for the undisputed heavyweight title has generated excitement among boxing fans worldwide. Both fighters are highly skilled and have impressive records, and the prospect of a fight between the two has been highly anticipated. The fight would undoubtedly be a historic event, determining the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis held all four belts in 1999.
