John Higgins thrashes Ronnie O’Sullivan 6-1 to reach semifinals

Ronnie O’Sullivan miserably lost to John Higgins, as the latter won 6-1 to set up a semifinal clash with Yan Bingtao.

The quarterfinal match between Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins was billed to be a tough encounter between two bona fide greats. However, it was a one-sided affair as Higgins breezed through O’Sullivan in an amazing win.

The 46-year-old Scottish snooker player won the first two frames to lead 2-0, but O’Sullivan pegged one back to keep the game at 2-1. Nonetheless, Higgins won the next four frames to eventually win the match 6-1.

The two players both played well in their group matches.

John Higgins secured an impressive 4-3 comeback victory in the group stage clash against Ding Junhui at the Champion of Champions.

Former World Champion John Higgins looked like he was set for an exit when his Chinese opponent Ding Junhui went into a 3-1 lead in their Cazoo Champion of Champions group semifinal match. However, the Scottish snooker player came back with three straight frame victories to claim a 4-3 win at the Bolton Whites Hotel. Higgins was able to seal his comeback to win the final frame 62-20 despite some late pressure from his Chinese opponent.

Meanwhile, Ronnie O’Sullivan got into the Group 3 final of the Champion of Champions with a straightforward 4-2 victory over Stuart Bingham.

Ronnie O’Sullivan easily advanced to the Group 3 final after seeing off the Ball Run. The world number 3 got off to a slow start, but he eventually settled and played better in the third frame. O’Sullivan was basically handed the match after an error from Bingham at 3-2.

In the other quarterfinal match, Yan Bingtao defeated Mark Selby 6-3 to qualify for the semifinals. The 21-year-old Chinese snooker player has been in remarkable form this tournament. He defeated Shaun Murphy 4-1 en route to beating Mark Selby in the quarterfinal.

Today, Judd Trump will face Kyren Wilson in his semifinal clash, while John Higgins will square up against Yan Bingtao on Saturday.
