Djokovic sets record with seventh ATP Finals title

World number one Novak Djokovic secured a historic seventh ATP Finals title after a commanding two-set victory over Jannik Sinner. Djokovic, who lost to Sinner in the group state of the event, made up for the loss with a dominant 6-3 6-3 win over his opponent.

This victory marked another milestone in Djokovic’s remarkable season, and even the Serbian stated that the season was “One of the best seasons I’ve had in my life, no doubt.” There is no doubt about this, as part of his achievements this season include three Grand Slam titles, making him the man with the most Grand Slam titles of all time. He is also ending the year as world number one for the eighth time.

This is particularly tremendous given the fact that he lost the number one spot at some point and even went down to number 10. But the wonderful year he has had has catapulted him back to the top spot.

Djokovic had been tied with Roger Federer on six ATP Finals titles, but he now surpassed the Swiss legend for the most ATP Finals titles.

The 36-year-old took control early in the final match on Sunday, breaking Sinner’s serve and displaying almost flawless play throughout the match.

In the second set, Djokovic continued his dominance with another early break, making Sinner’s aspirations of becoming the first Italian champion at the event seem unlikely. Although Sinner had break-point chances, Djokovic remained resolute, winning 91% of first-serve points.

Djokovic’s remarkable form and continuous pursuit of records position him as a favorite heading into the upcoming season, where he aims to build on his unparalleled success in men’s tennis. No doubt, he is the favorite for the Australian Open, which he has won a record 10th time. If all goes according to plan, next year might be the year Djokovic sets a new record for the most Grand Slam titles (25) – a record that might not be beaten anytime soon.
