Novak Djokovic has revealed he is training as if he will be allowed to compete in the upcoming US Open. As per the current rules and regulations for Covid-19, Djokovic is barred from traveling to the US as he is unvaccinated against the virus.
However, Djokovic is trying to be at the top of his fitness in case he is allowed to take part in the New York Major at the 11th minute. Meanwhile, Djokovic recently won Wimbledon after beating Nick Kyrgios in the final at SW19 in a four-set contest, to clinch his 21st Grand Slam title.
On the other hand, Djokovic had made it to the final of the previous US Open 2021 but he could not cross the final hurdle against Russia’s Daniil Medvedev. Thus, the Serbian also could not win Calendar Grand Slam as he had won the first three slams of the year.
Djokovic took to Instagram to upload a picture of his training and also gave his gratitude to all the fans, who have supported him recently.
Djokovic wrote, “I just wanted to take a moment and say to all of you how grateful I am to see so many messages of support and love from all around the world these days. ?? I wasn’t expecting it, and that’s why it feels so mindblowing. Just wanted to say THANK YOU. ??❤️”
He added, “It feels special that people connect with my tennis career in such a loving and supportive way and wish for me to continue to compete. I am preparing as if I will be allowed to compete, while I await to hear if there is any room for me to travel to US. Fingers crossed! ???”
Djokovic recently dropped down to the seventh place in the ATP rankings despite winning Wimbledon as 2000 points were docked after Russian and Belarusian players banned from playing in London.
