Novak Djokovic won’t miss a chance to complete Calendar slam: Dominic Thiem

Austria’s Dominic Thiem has predicted that Novak Djokovic won’t miss a chance to complete the Calendar slam. Djokovic has already won the Australian Open, French Open and the Wimbledon in the ongoing ATP 2021 season and he is on the cusp of creating history if he goes on to win the US Open.

In fact, Djokovic also had a chance to win the Golden Slam but he could not go all the way in the Olympics as he was beaten by Alexander Zverev in the semifinal of the Tokyo Games. Djokovic decided to rest from the National Bank Open and Western and Southern Open and thus he will be fresh for the all-important US Open.

The World no.1 will be hungry to go all the way in the US Open and he could become the third Tennis player to ever win Calendar slam in his career after Don Budge and Rod Laver. There is no doubt that Djokovic will be one of the biggest favorites for the US Open and he will look to create history.

“I think Djokovic will do it,” Thiem said. “Because of the Grand Slam – he has such an incredible will and because it is a chance of the century to win the Grand Slam. I think he won’t miss the chance.”

On the other hand, Thiem has decided to pull out of the US Open due to his wrist injury. The Austrian added that not being able to represent his national team at the Davis Cup was the biggest disappointment of the season for him.

“It all hurts. The Davis Cup hurts the most, it is perhaps the only time for such a great home Davis Cup,” Thiem said. “Of course missing Vienna is bitter, but I will definitely play that a few more times. But how often such a home Davis Cup will be against Serbia and Germany – maybe never again.”

The US Open will begin from August 30 in New York.
