Pliskova shines over Martic to win her 4th Zhengzhou Title

The Czech’s Wonderwoman, Karolina Pliskova, has added another laurel to her collection after emerging victorious in the finals of the Zhengzhou Open, defeating Petra Martic. This would boost her titles so far this year, after securing similar wins in three other cities of the world, including Brisbane. This would bring her total WTA wins this year to a massive 4.

The current world number two emerged top in the two sets, winning 6-3 6-2. Although Martic was touted to win the game, due to the fact that she beat her at the beginning of the year, Pliskova kept her head, player her game, breaking Martic a whopping 4 times. Pliskova also won most of her service, and still came from the bottom to defeat Martic in the first set after being down by 2-0.

Karolina, who also holds the records of the most WTA aces, would have a total of 15 WTA singles title. She has had an impressive year, and the highlight of it would be when she faced Naomi Osaka at the semifinals of the Australian Open in the start of the year.

All she needs is just a win at the grand slam, and maybe she might be able to reclaim her number one position again. Speaking of the grand slam, Pliskova has always maintained that she prefers the Australian Open to the US Open. Hopefully, she would be able to claim an award soon and mark her name with the, greatest.

The Czech star has no doubt had a good year, but her inability to still secure a grand slam makes her underrated in a way, although she has won a grand slam title as a junior. But she can make up for that in the next Australian Open, even try taking a short at the US Open, next year.

Overall, she has done pretty well for herself, succeeding in trying to close the gap between her and current world number 1, Ashleigh Barty. We can only look forward to her upcoming matches and see if she is ready for world domination.
