Team Europe wins sixth Laver Cup title

Team Europe reclaimed the Laver Cup with a 13-5 victory over Team World at London’s O2 Arena. Sunday’s win marked their sixth title. 

Alexander Zverev was instrumental in their victory, defeating Learner Tien 7-6(3), 6-3 in the second match of Sunday’s program to complete Europe’s return to the top.

Europe began the final day with a narrow 7-5 advantage, meaning two victories would be enough to reach the 13 points required for the title. 

Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik gave the perfect start, beating Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-3 in the opening doubles contest. 

Their success moved Yannick Noah’s side to 10-5 and left Zverev with the opportunity to finish the job.

The German rose to the challenge gracefully. Tien stayed with him during a closely fought first set, but Zverev edged the tie-break 7-3, and his experience was quite evident in the second set. 

A break of serve gave him the advantage, and he closed out the match in straight sets, which sent celebrations roaring among his teammates and the home crowd.

Zverev’s contribution stretched beyond the deciding singles victory. On Saturday, he and Casper Ruud defeated Alexander Bublik and Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 7-6(7) to earn two valuable points for Europe. 

Earlier that day, Zverev had also pushed Alex de Minaur hard in singles before the Australian won 2-6, 7-6(5), 11-9.

His final-day victory marked the fourth occasion on which Zverev had secured the winning point for Team Europe.

He previously clinched the competition in Chicago in 2018 and Geneva in 2019, then helped settle the 2021 contest in Boston by winning the decisive doubles match alongside Andrey Rublev.

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz also played a major role in the campaign, earning important singles and doubles points, while Cobolli, Mensik, Ruud and Rafael Jodar added further wins across the weekend. 

Yet the closing moment belonged to Zverev, whose performance against Tien earned Europe its sixth Laver Cup title and provided a fitting finish to an exciting weekend.

The 2026 triumph restores Europe’s place at the top after Team World won the previous edition in San Francisco. 

Europe’s earlier victories came in the inaugural 2017 tournament, followed by wins in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024. 

Team World lifted the trophy in 2022, 2023 and 2025, but could not match Europe’s response in London.
