Bam Adebayo signs record contract with Miami Heat; Udonis Haslem also extends his deal

Bam Adebayo has signed a record-breaking contract with the Miami Heat. The deal agreed by the 23-year-old with Miami Heat was made official on Saturday at the weekend.

The deal is for five years worth $163 million with escalator clauses. This beats the record contract previously held by Jimmy Butler; he signed a $141 million pact with the team.

The Escalators include earning a spot on the All-NBA team or earning an MVP or defensive player of the year in the upcoming season, could take it as high as $195 million.

Bam Adebayo’s Deal is the richest in franchise history, while also putting veteran forward Udonis Haslem on a one-year deal.

Miami Heat’s president Pat Riley explained that getting Bam Adebayo on a contract extension is a no brainer.

“One of the most important things a franchise can do is to make sure that your best, youngest, cornerstone players sign on the dotted line, Getting Bam his extension was a no-brainer for us because we know he will be around for years to come. That’s great for the Heat, great for the fans and great for Bam.” Heat president Pat Riley said in a statement.

Bam Adebayo is still on his rookie contract, he will enter the final year of that deal, and he will make $5.1 million in the upcoming season before the $28 million season salary for the 2021-22 season.

Adebayo averaged 15.9 points with 10.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists. In the playoffs, he recorded 17.8 points and 10.3 rebounds, while adding 4.4 assists in 19 of the team’s 21 playoff games.

Meanwhile, Haslem will be spending his 18th season in the NBA and the Miami Heat as well have signed a $2.6 million veteran minimum deal.

The Heat lost to the Lakers in a six-game Finals for the 2019-20 NBA Championship.
