Brooklyn Nets new signing Patty Mills shares his encounter with Kevin Durant during the Tokyo Olympics

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the favourites to win the NBA Championship in the upcoming season. They were tagged as favourites last season aswell but with Kyrie Irving and James Harden suffering from injuries, Kevin Durant had too much to do against the Bucks. While people may argue that if they remain healthy, the Nets are once again the favourites to win it all, the Nets however have not left a chance to upgrade their roster. They have brought back LaMarcus Aldridge and have also signed star point guard Patty Mills.

The Australian point guard recently led the Boomers to an iconic bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Mills was delighted to join the Nets as he shared an encounter with Kevin Durant during the Summer Games.

Mills had a sensational decade-long stint with the San Antonio Spurs, he will be swapping shirts to join the Nets. He was one of the most wanted players in free agency but he was clear of what he wanted. The 33-year-old wants to add another title to his illustrious career in basketball.

In a live interview of The Old Man and the Three, Mills expressed how he can’t wait to share the court with Durant. They went up against each other at the Olympics and Mills feels great to be teammates with the Durantula. He said, “It was unreal to be able to have the conversation with Kevin about coming to Brooklyn and just to understand how much of a pure hooper he is and talk basketball with him,” Mills started off.

“It’s good. It is the game. It’s understanding how big the game has gotten around the world. But to be able to compete against him and others at that elite level on an international stage.”

“Now, to bring that same mentality, that I had and I am sure, he had for our countries, now into the same locker room. That purpose and that driving force of what we’re trying to do here and win another championship, it’s exciting.”

The Nets front office were highly impressed with Mills and his performances for the Boomers at the Tokyo Olympics. They would hope that he brings the same energy to the court for the Nets in the upcoming season. The Nets need Mills to click and take some burden off James Harden especially when the games keep coming thick and fast.
