Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd concerned with the defense as they suffered humiliating defeat against the Trail Blazers

The Dallas Mavericks have not added reinforcements this season to aid their superstar Luka Doncic. They badly needed more players who can help the Slovenian and also work hard on the defensive side of things. Recently the Mavericks were humiliated by the Portland Trail Blazers in a 136-119 defeat and coach Jason Kidd was not impressed with the defensive performance of the team against the Blazers.

Kidd was content with the team’s attacking game but he was not at all impressed with their defensive work and felt that it was the main reason for their huge loss. He shared how the defense allowed players to get to the line and simply converting their shots. Someone of Damian Lillard’s calibre does not miss out on these chances as he scored the game high 36 points and also had 10 assists as he guided his team to victory.

“We made shots,” Kidd said. “It wasn’t so much our offense, it was our defense. You know we didn’t participate tonight. We gotta do a little bit better. Dame is going to the line 10 times and he had 36 points so we just gotta do a better job,” Kidd said after the defeat.

While the Blazers’ talisman was on song on the night, the Mavericks superstar was nowhere to be seen as Luka Doncic could only manage to score 15 points and grabbed 10 assists and six rebounds. It was a decent enough performance as the fans cannot expect any player to keep on delivering everyday. Doncic tried his best but it was just an off day as he missed a lot of shots. He shot 0% from three and only 36.8% from the field which was a little shocking considering the form he is in this season.

The Mavericks are one of the best teams in the Western COnference due to Luka Doncic and his ability to carry the offense of his shoulder. He literally at times look to outscore opponents as he knows their defense is not the best. He is averaging 33.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.6 steals this season and is in the MVP conversation and rightly so. Speaking about the lack of talent in his supporting cast, not a single player in the Mavericks lineup is averaging 20 points this season.

At the point of writing, the Dallas Mavericks has lost again to the Portland Trail Blazers as they were going to play them back to back. This time Doncic missed out and the Mavericks lost 140-123 with Damian Lillard scoring game-high 40 points as Afernee Simmons, Jusuf Nurkic and Jeremi Grant all scored 20 points in a complete domination.
