The reigning champions Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo have flown under the radar a little bit this season. The Bucks led by the Greek Freak has been superb this season. But when people hype up teams in the Eastern Conference it is mostly about Brooklyn Nets or the Philadelphia 76ers. Therefore few people believe that the Bucks are slightly underappreciated given what they pulled off that last season and how they backed it up in this campaign.
On ESPN’s “Keyshawn, JWill & Max,” former NBA player Jay Williams said he is not happy with absolutely o hype around Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. He even went on to say that the Greek Freak is probably the most disrespected star in the NBA.
“I think it starts to become a little bit ridiculous that people love to discredit what Milwaukee did last year. It seems like there are a lot of excuses around it,” Jay Williams stated. “I’m getting to this point now where I’m looking at Giannis and I’m saying, ‘Are you the most disrespected superstar of this generation?’
He also highlights how Giannis does his thing and remains pretty quiet. So he sarcastically states how the Greek Freak is not like Joel Embiid or Kevin Durant who manage to keep up the hype around them.
“He’s not as sexy as a Joel Embiid, or he’s not doing the way Kevin Durant has done it,” Williams added.
Despite being in the picture the Bucks hardly come into the conversation to win the Eastern Conference this season. The conversation mostly ie around the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers mostly due to their star players. However, it is the Miami Heat who are leading the pack in the East followed by the Bucks. The Sixers are third in the race whereas the Nets are struggling at eighth.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has been one of the most consistent and dynamic players in the NBA over the last few seasons. He was a man on a mission last time as he wanted to bring the trophy to Milwaukee. Now this time he is eager to defend the title. He won the coveted MVP award twice and the Defensive Player of the Year award. He is the only player after Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon to win the MVP and DPOY in the same season.
So teams certainly need to be wary of the Milwaukee Bucks and mostly importantly Giannis Antetokounmpo. The reigning champions are genuine threats not only on the Eastern Conference but to win the Championship yet again.
