Knicks move within one win of historic NBA Finals return after dominant victory over Cavaliers

New York Knicks moved to the brink of their first NBA Finals appearance in more than two decades after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 121-108 on Saturday to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Led by another outstanding performance from Jalen Brunson, the Knicks extended their playoff winning streak to 10 games and are now just one victory away from completing a series sweep.

Brunson delivered a game-high 30 points and once again controlled the pace of the contest, while OG Anunoby added 21 points and Mikal Bridges contributed 22 points on an efficient 11-of-15 shooting performance.

“I’m at a loss for words,” Brunson said after the victory. “I thought we fought, most importantly.”

The Knicks now stand on the verge of reaching the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, when they lost to the San Antonio Spurs. The franchise’s last NBA championship came in 1973.

Despite the dominant position, New York’s players insisted the job is far from finished.

“The series isn’t over,” Anunoby said. “Just keep our foot on their necks and just try to win the game.”

Brunson echoed the same sentiment, stressing the need for focus ahead of game four.

“Just focus on one possession at a time,” he said. “The way we’ve been having that mindset these past couple weeks, we have to continue it, if not actually better.”

The Knicks seized control early and never allowed Cleveland to recover. New York opened the game shooting 10-of-13 from the field and raced to a 29-19 lead midway through the first quarter. Karl-Anthony Towns played a major role in that fast start, scoring 11 early points and finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Josh Hart also made key contributions with 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Knicks continued their impressive postseason form.

Cleveland attempted to fight back after trailing 37-27 at the end of the first quarter and cut the deficit to six points by halftime. However, six turnovers in the opening six minutes of the third quarter allowed New York to regain complete control.

Evan Mobley led Cleveland with 24 points, while Donovan Mitchell scored 23. James Harden added 19 points, but the Cavaliers once again struggled to match New York’s intensity and defensive discipline.

Now unbeaten for a month, the Knicks head into game four with history firmly within reach.
