‘Michael Jordan: The Life’ Author Talks About What He Enjoyed About Writing His Book and ‘The Last Dance’

Roland Lazenby, author of ‘Michael Jordan: The Life,’ checked in with Eduardo Solano from SBR Picks and AccuScore to discuss what he enjoyed the most about writing ‘Michael Jordan: The Life’ and share his thoughts on ‘The Last Dance.’

Lazenby authored can’t-miss books like ‘Mindgames: Phil Jackson’s Long Strange Journey’, ‘Jerry West: The Life and Legend of a Basketball Icon’ and ‘Showboat: The Life of Kobe Bryant.’

The renowned author has spent the past three decades writing about sports, interviewing players, coaches, staff members and more.

Few sports writers capture human stories like Lazenby. ‘Michael Jordan: The Life’ was published by Little, Brown in 2014 and it provides a detailed, extensive look into how Michael Jordan’s family influenced his will to win and how competitive he is.

“What I enjoy about all my books, my emotional relationship with the research, all the interviews and research and conversations, the process of turning all the moments and actions of my subject over and over again in my mind,” Lazenby told Solano.

This is what Lazenby said when asked about ‘The Last Dance’:

“I thought it was excellent and an awesome display of power. In addition to the story-telling, director Jason Hehir’s great success was getting Jordan to be forthcoming about his ruthlessness in driving his teammates and everyone associated with the Bulls through the grueling process of winning championships, something I’ve written about in several books, including ‘Michael Jordan: The Life’ and ‘Blood on The Horns’ (my book about the end of the Bulls dynasty).

By the way, Hehir posted on Twitter that my books were “bibles” for him and his staff in putting together the documentary.”
