Milwaukee Bucks playing for each other, not to be in headlines: Giannis Antetokounmpo

The 120-113 win against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night was the 11th win for the Milwaukee Bucks in their last 12 games. Yet the hype around the team somehow hasn’t been the same as it had been in the past two seasons when the team finished at the top of the league standings.

But reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has no regrets about it as this is just the way he likes things to be.

“We don’t play for people to talk about us,” the Bucks star said after notching up 26 points, 15 assists, and 8 rebounds against the Spurs.

“I kind of like it. I just want to be left alone. I never liked bright lights. I never liked people talking about us. It just adds pressure to me and my teammates to come in and do what we do.

“I kind of like to be under the radar and we just come in, enjoy one another, enjoy playing basketball and we’re just getting the job done. But, yeah, there’s gonna be times they’re gonna talk about us, there’s gonna be times they’re not gonna talk about us, but personally, as I said, I just like being under the radar,” Antetokounmpo added.

PJ Tucker also made his debut in the game. Although he didn’t score in the 13 minutes he played, he did grab three boards with a block.

“He’s great. You can hear him everywhere,” said Bucks guard Jrue Holiday, who scored 21 points and five rebounds.

“You can hear him even when he’s on the bench, but out there on the court it’s really fun. You love a guy that communicates in that way. He’s loud, very clear and distinctive and makes the game a lot easier,” Holiday added.

Talking about Antetokounmpo again, he equaled his career-best of 15 Assists in a game. He also went on to become the fourth player in Milwaukee Bucks’ history to score at least 25 points and 15 assists in a game. Monta Ellis, Oscar Robertson and Guy Rodgers are the other three.

Antetokounmpo also went on to say how much they want to continue this form and how much all the players enjoy being on the court with each other.

“We’re just gonna keep doing what we’re doing. We just keep enjoying each other and keep playing to win games and playing the right way.”
