Pochettino and Garcia speaks as PSG returns to Ligue 1 summit

It is no longer news that Paris Saint-Germain has returned to the French Ligue 1 table’s summit, but some of the top four club coaches have reacted to the latest results that saw Lille and Lyon fell like a pack of cards.

PSG showed their title credentials after dismantling Lyon 4-2  on their turf. Kylian Mbappe also bagged his 99th and 100th goals in the Ligue during the clash. The French star is the youngest player to have ever achieved the feat.

LOSC Lille suffered a 2-1 defeat against Nîmes while Monaco’s 4-0 win over Sainté Etienne left the top four teams separated by just four points. This has therefore shoot increased the tension in Europe’s most exciting title race in 2020-21.

Another positive for the Parisien is that the victory is coming few days after moving past Barcelona into the next round of the UEFA Champions League. The Paris club won the tie 5-2 on aggregate. It was also a good response from the Ligue 1 champion, having suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat to Nantes in Round 29.

Reacting to the win, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino pointed out that it was important for the club to return to the top of the log and still be in all three competitions, including Ligue 1 UEFA Champions League and the Coupe de France.

The PSG boss expressed delight with their performance said he expects them to keep going in this way in the future.

On his part, Lyon coach Rudi Garcia said the title had not been decided yet. Lyon is just three points behind the champions and Lille. The former Roma coach is, therefore, not throwing in the towel yet.

He added that his lads would keep fighting and stay motivated. While citing the current standing, Garcia said the club’s destiny is no longer in their hands.

Lyon won’t be playing PSG in the league again, having played both legs. Garcia is therefore hoping for another slip-up from the champions. He also stated that it would be hard for them to lose the title if they continue playing like they on Sunday night.

PSG will have to prove their credentials during Round 31’s visit to Lille.
