Timberwolves Trade Josh Green to Jazz, Acquire Cody Williams in Offseason Deal

The Minnesota Timberwolves have continued reshaping their roster, completing a trade with the Utah Jazz that sends guard Josh Green and cash considerations to Utah in exchange for forwards Cody Williams and John Konchar.

Konchar, however, will not remain with Minnesota, with the Timberwolves waiving the 30-year-old shortly after completing the transaction. ESPN’s Shams Charania was the first to report the deal.

The trade gives Utah an experienced guard in Green, who is preparing for his seventh NBA season. The 6-foot-6 guard was selected with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft after playing at Arizona.

Green has accumulated considerable NBA experience, appearing in 349 games and making 129 starts across spells with the Dallas Mavericks and Charlotte Hornets. He spent four seasons with Dallas from 2020 to 2024 before playing for Charlotte from 2024 to 2026.

One of Green’s notable achievements came during the Mavericks’ run to the 2024 NBA Finals, when he emerged as an important contributor. He also has international experience with Australia, helping the country win a bronze medal at the 2021 Olympic Games. Green later represented Australia in four games at the 2024 Olympics.

Minnesota, meanwhile, adds Williams, a 6-foot-8 forward who produced career-best numbers during his most recent season with Utah.

Williams played 67 games, including 41 starts, and averaged 8.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 24.3 minutes per game. He shot 46.8% from the field and recorded six games with at least 20 points, the highest total of his career.

His standout performance came against Sacramento on March 15, when he scored a career-best 34 points. Williams is also the younger brother of Thunder swingman Jalen Williams.

Konchar was the other player included in Minnesota’s return before being waived. Across eight NBA seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies and Jazz, he has played 363 games, starting 65.

Konchar has career averages of 4.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 17.6 minutes per game while shooting 46.9% from the field.

The transaction adds another move to Minnesota’s eventful offseason while giving Utah an established guard with playoff and international experience.
