Woltemade heads to Juventus; David heads to Atletico on loan

Juventus are preparing to sign striker Nick Woltemade on loan after he arrived in Turin for a medical, while Jonathan David has also left the club to join Atletico Madrid on loan.

Both clubs agreed on a €4 million loan deal for the German until the end of the season, with no option to make it permanent.

The Bianconerri dropped their pursuit of Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee, opting instead for the German forward due to both technical and financial reasons.

They’d also been linked with Atletico’s striker Alexander Sorloth before this development, but the two clubs haven’t managed to agree on anything.

Atletico are already dealing with Julian Alvarez’s future, and were not going to let the Norwegian striker leave because Alvarez is still out of the team, even though the club has made it clear he’s not for sale.

As for Juventus, they have been eager to get rid of David, who joined the club on a free transfer.

They’ll make a profit if the Canadian meets the criteria to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Woltemade, who came from Stuttgart to the Tyneside club netted 11 goals in 53 games for Newcastle.

David also flew out of Turin on Tuesday morning to finalize his initial loan move to the La Liga side.

The 26-year-old Canadian international flew privately from Turin to Madrid, where he will undergo his medical and finalize a loan deal with an option to buy for €25m.

Juventus already have Woltemade, who will take his place, and the German international will return to his parent club next season.

Newcastle might not need to bring in a replacement, since they’ve got plenty of attackers who can step in and cover for him.

At least this will ease the wage burden on the club, which won’t be participating in any European competitions this season.
