Fury speaks on “dangerous fight” ahead of weekend clash with Wach

Tyson Fury has labelled his upcoming fight with Mariusz Wach a “dangerous fight,” stating that the veteran Pole has the size, experience, and toughness to cause problems despite the low-profile nature of the event.

The former heavyweight world champion is set to face Wach in Pattaya, Thailand, this weekend as he continues his return to action. 

While many have viewed the bout as a routine assignment ahead of bigger fights later in the year, Fury made it clear he sees things differently.

Speaking ahead of the contest, Fury pointed to Wach’s physical attributes as a major reason for taking the fight seriously. He said, “Listen, this fight is a dangerous fight. Mariusz is the same size as me, same weight as me. 

“He’s had the same amount of fights, if not more than me. He’s been in there with the most elite level champions out of two generations, two eras.” 

Wach, 46, has spent much of his career sharing the ring with some of boxing’s biggest names. The Polish heavyweight has previously gone the distance with Wladimir Klitschko, Dillian Whyte, Hughie Fury, and Jarrell Miller, earning a reputation as one of the division’s toughest and most durable veterans.

Fury’s respect for Wach comes as he continues what he describes as a personal revival. The 37-year-old has spent several months in Thailand and says the change of environment has helped him rediscover his motivation and enjoyment for the sport.

The fight will take place at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya rather than the large arenas normally associated with Fury’s bouts. 

The Gypsy King defended the chosen venue, saying that, unlike him, many athletes think they are bigger than they are. 

“Do you think David Beckham would play a professional football match here or someone famous like that?” Fury asked. “No way. They’re not just going to do it, because a lot of these big celebrities and big stars, sports stars, they think they’re bigger than they actually are. 

“I could be at Wembley Stadium selling out 100,000 or Tottenham selling out 70,000, or [here in Thailand] selling 1,500 tickets. Does it matter? We’re still going to go in there and have a good fight, Mariusz and I. So yeah, very happy to be here.”
