Eddie Hearn has publicly called on Tyson Fury to make known his intentions regarding a potential bout with Anthony Joshua, urging the former heavyweight champion to “put us out of our misery” after weeks of social media hints and speculation.
Hearn, who promotes Joshua, has grown increasingly frustrated by Fury’s ambiguous status and regular training updates online. Speaking to Sky Sports, Hearn remarked, “I feel like Tyson Fury’s a bit of a tease really, isn’t he? I mean, all we see on Instagram is him. Even today, I’ve come out of the press conference, went on Instagram, [Fury is] there with his wraps on doing 12 rounds of boxing. Why are you doing this to us? What are you doing? Just let us know either way. Put us out of our misery”.
The two British heavyweights have been linked for years, but a fight has never been agreed on. Fury’s recent retirement after back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk seemed to close the door on the matchup, but Fury has since teased a return, making fans wonder if a comeback is on the horizon.
Hearn believes the fight is easier to make than ever before, stating, “We’re reliant upon Tyson Fury. We’re ready to go, but obviously, he’s got to be comfortable. He’s got to be up for it. He’s a competitive so-and-so, and I just know in his mind, he’ll want to dance with Anthony Joshua. So, dust those shoes off and let’s make it happen”.
The promoter also stressed that, with neither fighter currently holding a world title, negotiations should be straightforward. “Honestly, one phone call. Previously, one had a belt; one was the challenger. [Before that], one was unified, me and Frank Warren never spoke, me and Tyson Fury didn’t get on. That ship’s sailed now.”
Hearn is of the opinion that setting up the fight now should be way easier now, which is reason enough for the fight to happen. For now, the boxing world waits for Fury’s answer, with Hearn and Joshua ready to proceed if the “Gypsy King” gives the green light.
