Pulev Delivers First-round Knockout Over Mir In Triad Combat Rules

Kubrat Pulev wasted very little time before defeating Frank Mir in the main event of the triad Combat Rules fight. The two fighters squared off in a triangle ring, in a fight win hybrid set of rules, borrowing from both MMA and boxing.

The fight, which is Pulev’s first piece of action since losing to Anthony Joshua last year, was the first of its kind and Pulev has made history as the first winner after knocking out Mir just before the first round was over.

As soon as the fight started, it was clear that Pulev had the upper hand, because of his background as a boxer. Mir, a former UFC Heavyweight champion, struggled against his opponent.

Pulev, on the other hand, did not break a sweat as he ended everything with a left hook that Mir found it hard to recover from. As a professional boxer, Pulev has only suffered two losses in his career, while Mir lost 13 times out of 32 fights when he was still in the MMA.

After the fight, Pulev’s promoter, Ivaylo Gotzev, revealed that the boxer would make a return to the ring next year as he named Joe Joyce as a possible contender: “We’ve been getting a lot of offers. Joe Joyce is looking for us.” But Gotzev noted that Pulev would not be used as a stepping stone for anybody, so we can expect that Pulev’s next boxing match would be against a worthy opponent.

The Triad Combat is a new fighting event sponsored by Triller, a content creation platform. The event is neither a boxing nor MMA match but is rather a mixture of both. Rules from boxing and MMA are used in the fight, which is fought in a triangular ring. For example, during the fight, fighters are allowed to hold and grab each other and they used MMA gloves. But no kicking was allowed. It is unclear at the moment if there would be another Triad Combat match anytime soon.
