The new reports emerging now are stating that the upcoming fight between WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua might take place in mid-August. While this has not been expressly confirmed, the reports are hinged on the fact that there have been no agreements for a July 23 bout as earlier speculated. This means that fight would have to be pushed to August.
One thing, however, is certain, and that is the fact that the fight would hold in Saudi Arabia, and this was confirmed by Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn himself. When asked if the fight could be delayed from its original July 23 date, he said: “When you question about will there be a delay? If there is, you’re talking about two weeks, and it’s for no other reason than time and making sure we can promote the fight in the right way.
The fight is happening, the fight is agreed in terms of where it will take place, and both sides have agreed, both sides have agreed on the deal, and both sides have agreed to everything.
“It’s just probably taken 10 days longer than we wanted it to, and without putting a date, all I can tell you is we are finalising the final bits of paperwork, and everything is agreed. So, standby.”
As usual, Hearn does not give a straightforward answer. But this might be because he is still hoping that things can be finalised just in time to allow the fight to take place in July. The odds of that happening are not exactly high, but it is not impossible either.
Boxing fans can just hope to get an official announcement about the fight in the coming days so they can put their minds at ease.
