Amorim Shuts Down Real Madrid Rumours: Bruno Fernandes Staying at Manchester United

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has poured cold water on speculation linking club captain Bruno Fernandes with a summer move to Real Madrid, affirming in no uncertain terms that the Portuguese playmaker is going nowhere.

During a press conference ahead of United’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, Amorim was asked directly about rumours of a possible transfer involving Fernandes, to which he responded firmly: “No, it’s not going to happen.”

Pressed further on his confidence, Amorim added with a grin, “He’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him.” His light-hearted tone, accompanied by a familiar spark in his eyes reflected the strong bond between the two Portuguese compatriots who previously worked together at Sporting Lisbon.

The statement comes on the heels of weekend reports linking the 30-year-old midfielder with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, Fernandes, who extended his contract with United until 2027 last August, appears to be central to Amorim’s plans for rebuilding a struggling Red Devils side.

Fernandes has been a standout performer in what has otherwise been a disappointing season for Manchester United. With 16 goals across all competitions, he is the club’s top scorer by a wide margin—no other United player has reached double figures. His recent form has been electric, netting five goals in the week leading into the last international break, including a Europa League hat-trick against Real Sociedad.

Statistically, Fernandes continues to be among the Premier League’s elite playmakers. Only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (54) and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (33) boast more combined goals and assists this season than Fernandes, who sits on an impressive tally of 31.

Despite individual brilliance from their captain, Manchester United have faltered in the league, languishing in 13th place. Their next challenge is a formidable one: a trip to face third-placed Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Amorim’s unwavering stance on Fernandes’ future signals the coach’s intent to retain his key assets amid a rebuilding phase. With the summer transfer window approaching, Manchester United fans will be reassured by their manager’s clarity and confidence in keeping one of their most influential stars.
