Arsenal go top of the EPL table after Newcastle draws with Man City

Newcastle United and Manchester City played an entertaining 3-3 draw at Saint James’s Park to end Pep Guardiola’s side’s 100% start to the season.

The defending champions, alongside Arsenal, were the only two teams going into the third week with 100% records after winning their first two games.

The Gunners played promoted Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday and recorded an emphatic 3-0 scoreline where Martin Odegaard scored twice and William Saliba added another spectacular effort.

The win puts Arsenal on three wins from three matches, nine goals scored, and two conceded. Mikel Arteta’s side started their season with a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace before scoring four times in a 4-2 win over Leicester City at Emirates Stadium.

On City’s path, the champions started with a 2-0 victory over West Ham United before beating Bournemouth 4-0 at Etihad. Sunday’s 3-3 draw is the only stop in their stride.

It didn’t start like a game they wouldn’t win after taking the lead in the 5th minute through Ilkay Gundogan. Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson scored before the break to give the home side a halftime lead.

Manchester City got back on track with Erling Haaland’s third Premier League goal in three Premier League games on the hour mark, while Bernado Silva completed the comeback four minutes later.

The defending champions are second behind Arsenal, who leads with two points, while Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday returned them to winning ways.

Leeds United shocked Chelsea with a 3-0 win, and they sit 4th as well as Brighton, who won away at West Ham United with a 2-0 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will face Liverpool on Monday evening at Old Trafford, and all eyes will be on Erik Ten Hag, who will hope he doesn’t equal John Chapman’s record of losing his first three games as the Red Devils manager.

Ten Hag, who joined United from Ajax in the summer, lost his first two games to Brighton and Brentford 2-1 and 4-0, respectively.
