Arsenal Prepare £70m Move for Bruno Guimaraes as Midfield Pursuit Intensifies

Arsenal are preparing a £70 million offer for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes as the Premier League champions continue their search for top-quality additions ahead of the new season.

The Brazil international has emerged as one of Arsenal’s priority transfer targets, with discussions over a potential move understood to have gathered pace in recent days. Guimaraes is believed to be keen on joining the north London club, while Newcastle are aware of the midfielder’s preference to make the switch this summer.

Although personal terms are not expected to present any major obstacles, uncertainty remains over whether Arsenal’s proposed £70m bid will match Newcastle’s valuation of the 28-year-old.

Despite the growing speculation, sources close to Newcastle maintain that the club has no intention of selling its captain during the current transfer window. It is also understood that Arsenal have yet to make a formal approach for the player.

Arsenal are determined to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad after winning the Premier League title last season and are targeting proven performers across several positions. However, the club is sticking firmly to its transfer strategy by refusing to exceed its internal valuations.

That approach was evident in Arsenal’s pursuit of Morgan Rogers. The Gunners were interested in signing the Aston Villa midfielder but refused to increase their valuation beyond £80m. Chelsea eventually secured Rogers in a deal worth £117m, with Arsenal opting not to match the offer despite being given the opportunity.

The same principle is expected to apply in negotiations for Guimaraes, with Arsenal unwilling to overpay even for one of their top summer targets.

Defensive reinforcements also remain high on Arsenal’s agenda. Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa is regarded as the club’s preferred option at the back, and enquiries have already been made regarding the England international’s availability.

Como defender Jacobo Ramon is another player being monitored, although clauses in the Spaniard’s contract are believed to make any potential transfer difficult.

In attack, Arsenal continue to explore options after missing out on Rogers. Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez remains the club’s dream signing, but his reported preference for a move to Barcelona, coupled with a transfer fee that could surpass the British-record £125m paid when Alexander Isak joined Liverpool from Newcastle, makes any deal highly challenging.

Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has also been considered as Arsenal continue their search for attacking reinforcements.
