Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka Sidelined for “Many Weeks” with Hamstring Injury

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that star winger Bukayo Saka will be out for “many weeks” following a hamstring injury sustained during the Gunners’ emphatic 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday. The 23-year-old was forced off the field in the 24th minute, casting a shadow over an otherwise dominant performance at Selhurst Park.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Arteta expressed his disappointment at losing one of the team’s most influential players. “It’s not looking good, he’s going to be out for many weeks,” Arteta stated. “I cannot be too specific because I do not know, but it’s going to be many weeks.”

Saka, who has been a key player for Arsenal this season with five goals and 10 assists in the league, will be a significant loss. Arteta described the injury as a “huge one” and emphasized the challenge it presents to the squad. “He’s a massive player for us. You have to see the impact he has on this team,” he said. “It will be a good exercise for all of us to overcome another challenge, because we’ve had a lot in the season.”

Despite the setback, Arteta remains optimistic that Saka will return before the end of the campaign. “I’m very optimistic he’ll be back before the end of the season,” he reassured. The manager also highlighted the importance of using this period as a learning experience for Saka. “It could have been much worse. It’s how you react to that, how you overcome that situation, and it’s a great learning process for him as well,” Arteta explained.

The injury to Saka isn’t Arsenal’s only concern. Arteta also confirmed that Raheem Sterling, on loan from Chelsea, has sustained a knee injury and will similarly be out for an extended period.

As Arsenal looks to cope with Saka’s absence, Arteta hinted at tactical adjustments. “We went through the period with Martin (Odegaard) and the period with five, six defenders missing,” he said. “We’re taking it with positive energy.”

Arsenal, currently third in the Premier League standings and six points behind leaders Liverpool, will face Ipswich Town, a relegation-threatened side, at the Emirates on Friday. The Gunners, who have finished as runners-up in the last two seasons, will need to rely on their squad depth as they aim to stay in contention for the title.
