Atalanta attacker Ademola Lookman has confirmed submitting a formal transfer request due to their rejection of the offer from Inter Milan.
The attacker on Sunday via his Instagram post.
The Nigerian winger complained that La Dea are blocking the opportunity to join Nerazurri for reasons unknown to him.
The latest offer turned down by the Serie A club was 45 million Euros, including add-ons, which the Nigerian international felt was enough to get the deal done.
The former Leicester City attacker, in his statement, explained the memorable moments that led to the UEFA Europa League triumph two seasons ago, which he cherished most, adding that he made it clear he wants to make the move to San Siro, leading to him handing in a transfer request.
Confirming the latest development on Sunday afternoon, the former Fulham winger said it’s the right time for him to leave the club for another adventure.
Last season, Le Dea turned down an offer for the attacker from UEFA Champions League current champions, Paris Saint-Germain, leading to their relationship deteriorating further.
He further stated that despite rejection of offers from numerous clubs that have approached Atalanta in the past, he had always remained loyal.
“However, the ownership of the club and I have agreed that now is the right time, and the club were clear with me that if a fair offer came in, they would allow me to move,” part of his statement read.
But the latest development seems to be otherwise as La Dea reportedly want at least 50 million euros for the attacker.
The relationship collapsed completely after losing a penalty during the Champions League play-off elimination against Club Brugge. He had insisted on taking a crucial penalty, which was saved by Simon Mignolet, despite being behind the pecking order of penalty takers for the club.
Reacting to the development, Gian Piero Gasperini, who has now left the club for AS Roma, lambasted the Nigerian winger, describing him as one of the worst penalty takers he has ever seen.
Mateo Retegui and Charles De Ketelaere were ahead of him in the ranking for penalty kicks for La Dea.
Despite Gasperini’s departure, the deteriorated relationship was not repaired.
As he seems determined to join Inter, the Nigerian international is trying to force through the transfer to Inter. This is much like Teun Koopmans, who also did it by moving to Juventus last summer.
