Liverpool’s talisman Mohamed Salah will play no further part this season after suffering a hamstring injury during the club’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace, according to Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan.
The 33-year-old winger, who recently confirmed he will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the campaign, was forced off in the 60th minute after appearing to pull up sharply. As he exited the pitch, Salah acknowledged the crowd, drawing applause from supporters aware that it could mark his final appearance in a Liverpool shirt at Anfield.
While Liverpool have yet to release an official medical update, Hassan provided clarity on the extent of the injury. “He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment,” he said, indicating that Salah’s season has effectively come to an early conclusion.
The timing is significant, as it closes the curtain on a glittering nine-year spell at the club. Salah leaves as Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time, having delivered consistent performances and major silverware during his tenure. This season, he contributed 12 goals and nine assists across competitions, continuing to play a pivotal role despite the team’s evolving squad.
Liverpool still have key fixtures remaining, including clashes against Manchester United, Chelsea FC, and Brentford FC. Notably, Salah has historically performed strongly against United, making his absence particularly felt. His farewell will now come in a different form, with plans for him to address fans after the final home match of the season.
Despite the setback, there is optimism regarding his international future. Hassan confirmed that Salah is expected to recover in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Egypt national football team will face Belgium national football team, New Zealand national football team, and Iran national football team in Group G.
Salah is reportedly focused on regaining full fitness ahead of the tournament, determined to avoid a repeat of 2018, when a shoulder injury—sustained against Real Madrid CF in the Champions League final—hampered his impact as Egypt exited at the group stage.
For now, Liverpool fans must prepare to say goodbye to one of the club’s modern greats without seeing him on the pitch again.
