Atletico Madrid Knocked Out of Copa Del Rey

Capital club, Atletico Madrid were shockingly knocked out of the Spanish Copa Del Rey by Segunda Division B team Leonesa 2-1 After extra time on Thursday evening.

Leonesa are currently second on the Segunda Division B league standing behind UD Logrones, while Atletico Madrid are third on the La Liga table.

The lower division team has 8 wins from ten games, including two draws and are so far unbeaten since their 1-0 loss to Valladolid Promesas on the 1st of December 2019.
Atletico, on the other hand, have 3 wins in their last 5 but are winless in their last two games before the cup tie.

The team lost to Real Madrid on Penalties after a goalless draw in Saudi in the Final of the Spanish Super Cup and Eibar in their last Spanish La Liga game.
The game on Thursday at the Estadio Reino de Leon started slowly, without a goal in the first half but the second saw two goals, but the first came on the hour mark.
Angel Correa’s goal came off a Joao Felix assist before Julen Castaneda equalized with just three minutes left to regular time.

Moving into Extra time, youngster, Sergio Benito scored the winner for the home team on the 108th minute to move Leonesa into the next round and break Diego Simeone men’s heart.

Atletico Madrid will now turn their attention to the Spanish La Liga game against Leganes this weekend before a Derby against Real at the Santiago Bernabeau.
Leonesa on the other hand will travel to Athletic Bilbao B before hosting league leaders UD Logrones at home.
