Barcelona Bow Out Of The Champions League After Draw With PSG

Despite scoring a spectacular effort, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi missed a penalty that could have helped in changing the direction of the tie against PSG.

The Catalan giants lost the first leg of the round of 16 ties 4-1 to the French champions at the Camp Nou with Kylian Mbappe scoring a hat-trick at the Camp Nou.

Ronald Koeman’s side needed a 4-0 scoreline away at the Parc De Princes but Mauricio Pochettino’s side to the lead in the game in the first half of the game.

Clement Lenglet committed a foul in the 30th minute in the box and Mbappe converted the spot-kick without any issue.

Lionel Messi equalized 6 minutes later with a fantastic strike from over 30 yards out, a strike that beat Keylor Navas in the PSG goal.

Messi should have given Barca the lead going into the break but his spot-kick was saved by Keylor Navas.

Neither of both teams got the winner but the French side were the winners on the night as they progressed into the Quarterfinals 5-2 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, Liverpool also joined the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Dortmund, and Porto into the quarter-finals.

Jurgen Klopp’s side may be having a poor time in the Premier League but they’ve managed to win both legs in the round of 16 against German side RB Leipzig.

Just like in the first leg, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah scored again in the second leg to give Liverpool a 4-0 aggregate win.

After a goalless first half, Salah opened the goal scoring in the 71st minute before Sadio Mane scored a second three minutes later.

In other rounds of 16 ties, Juventus defeated Porto 3-2  but the Portuguese side moved into the next round on away goal rule with a 4-4 aggregate scoreline.

Dortmund played a 2-2 draw with Sevilla but the Germans progressed to the next round after winning the first leg 3-2 in Spain.
