Manchester City Thrash Southampton 5-2

Manchester City recovered from the Manchester derby loss to Manchester United with a 5-2 victory over Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Pep Guardiola’s men had their 21-match winning streak halted by their city rivals at the weekend with a 2-0 loss to Manchester United.

However, they showed signs of recovery early on by taking the lead through Kevin De Bruyne in the 15th minute.

Ward-Prowse equalized for the saints ten minutes later through a penalty but Mahrez and Gundogan extended the lead for the host in the 40 minute and 45th minute of the first half.

The second half started fast-paced as Mahrez scored City’s 4th goal of the game in the 55th minute before Adams scored a minute after.

De Bruyne scored his brace three minutes after Adam’s goal to ensure City’s win.

The result means that Southampton has conceded 14 goals in their last two visit to Manchester after losing 9-0 to United in February.

The win also puts City within six more wins for their third title in four seasons. Pep Guardiola’s side also has 14 points ahead of Manchester United although the blue half of Manchester has played a game more.

The saints remain in the 13th position with 34 points from 28 games this season and they are just seven points away from relegation places.

Southampton has been in poor form of late with just two wins in their last 11 games played. The wins coming against Sheffield United and Wolves away from home.

Manchester City can grab another win at the win with a clash with Fulham at the Craven Cottage while the Saints will host Brighton.

Meanwhile, Premier League sides Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

While the Gunners will face Olympiacos, Spurs will play against Dinamo Zagreb.
