Barcelona edge Real Madrid 4-3 in El Clasico, moves closer to the title

Barcelona took a significant step towards reclaiming the La Liga title with a dramatic 4-3 victory over arch-rivals Real Madrid in a pulsating El Clásico at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

Despite a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappe, the Catalans held firm to claim all three points and move seven points clear at the top of the table with just three games remaining.

Real Madrid started the match on the front foot, with Mbappe converting a penalty in the fifth minute after a foul in the box. The French forward doubled the visitors’ lead in the 14th minute following a swift assist from Vinícius Júnior. However, Barcelona responded with intensity and flair. Eric García headed home in the 19th minute, followed by a brilliant strike from Lamine Yamal just past the half-hour mark to level the score.

Barcelona then seized control before the break, as Raphinha struck twice in quick succession, scoring in the 34th and 45th minutes. The home side went into halftime with a commanding 4-2 lead, buoyed by three assists from Ferran Torres and another from Pedri. The first half alone was packed with goals, drama, and momentum shifts, setting up a thrilling second half.

Real Madrid came back with renewed determination after the interval. Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute, once again assisted by Vinícius Júnior, to bring the score to 4-3 and inject fresh tension into the match. Despite further pressure from Madrid and late chances, including a missed opportunity by substitute Victor Munoz and an offside goal from Mbappe, Barcelona managed to maintain their slender lead.

There was late controversy when Fermin Lopez appeared to score a fifth for Barcelona in stoppage time, only for the goal to be ruled out for handball after VAR intervention. Moments earlier, he had thought he sealed the win on his 22nd birthday, sparking wild celebrations that were quickly muted by the decision. Still, the home fans remained jubilant as the final whistle confirmed the victory.

With this result, Barcelona have now opened up a critical seven-point advantage over Real Madrid in the title race. The win not only boosts their championship hopes but also restores pride in a fixture that always carries immense weight. For Real Madrid, despite Mbappe’s heroics, the defeat leaves their title hopes hanging by a thread.
