Barcelona secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Atlético Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal, advancing to the tournament’s final with a 5-4 aggregate win. Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal, capitalizing on Barcelona’s first-half dominance to poke a threaded ball past Atlético goalkeeper Juan Musso.
The match was marked by intense tackling and physical play, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. However, it was Barcelona who controlled the tempo of the game, with Raphinha coming close to doubling the lead with a low shot that Musso expertly saved.
Atlético made adjustments at halftime, introducing substitute Alexander Sørloth, who had a significant impact on the game, firing a shot into the side netting shortly after entering the pitch.
Despite Atlético’s improved performance after the break, Barcelona remained threatening, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal causing problems for the Atlético defense. However, the home team’s efforts were ultimately thwarted, and Barcelona’s narrow victory marked their fourth consecutive away win against Atlético.
The loss highlights Atlético’s recent struggles, with the team now six matches without a win and facing a nine-point gap in LaLiga. Their last realistic hope for silverware rests on the Copa del Rey, but their chances appear slim. In contrast, Barcelona’s victory keeps them on track for a potential quadruple, having already claimed the Spanish Super Cup.
The win sets up a highly anticipated matchup between Barcelona and Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, scheduled to take place in Seville. Barcelona’s strong form, unbeaten in 21 games across all competitions, makes them a formidable opponent.
With this victory, Barcelona advances to their first Copa del Rey final since the 2020/21 season, looking to add to their impressive trophy haul under the guidance of coach Hansi Flick. The team’s momentum and confidence will be put to the test as they face off against their arch-rivals in the highly anticipated final.
