Barcelona thrash Athletic Bilbao 4-0 to continue winning streak

Barcelona continued with their winning streak, which is now stretched to three matches as they beat Athletic Club 4-0.

The Catalonians came on the back of their inspiring 4-1 win against Valencia in the La Liga last weekend and another 4-2 thumping on Napoli in the UEFA Europa League during the week.

Former Arsenal striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been important to the victories with his hattrick against Valencia and another solitary strike in the Europa League before opening the scoring for his fifth goal in five matches on Sunday evening.

His strike was the only goal in the first half as Ousmane Dembele made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute of the game. Luke De Jong and Memphis Depay added more gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time.

Barcelona remains in fourth though with 45 points, one behind Real Betis in third and nine behind Sevilla in second place. They trail Real Madrid, who leads the La Liga table by fifteen points.

Barcelona’s next game will now be against Elche in the La Liga on the sixth of March before their next UEFA Europa League game against Galatasaray in the quarterfinals of the competition.

Meanwhile, in other games, Yeremi Pino scored four for Villarreal as the Yellow Submarines thrashed Espanyol 5-1. The teenager completed his hattrick in the first half with his goals coming after just fourteen minutes into the game while his second and third goals came on the 20th and 45th minute, respectively

His fourth goal came in the 53rd minute of the second half before he was subsequently substituted for Nigerian Forward Samuel Chukwueze with fifteen minutes left on the clock.

Meanwhile, Real Betis lost grounds in their race for second place after losing 2-1 to Sevilla while Real Sociedad beat Osasuna 1-0 on Sunday night as well.
