Bayern Munich faces João Palhinha transfer dilemma as club look to find permanent solution

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich seek the permanent transfer of João Palhinha following his return from loan during the end of last season.

Tottenham Hotspur have pulled out of the race to sign Portuguese midfielder João Palhinha, leaving Bayern Munich in a tricky situation as they look to offload the player this summer.

Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi was reportedly a strong admirer of the 30-year-old Fulham alumnus and pushed for a permanent deal.

However, Bayern refused to negotiate below their €30 million asking price, prompting Spurs to abandon the pursuit.

The decision now appears to be backfiring for the German champions. Palhinha is attracting interest from several clubs, notably Benfica and Sporting CP in his homeland, as well as Premier League side Aston Villa.

Yet the Portuguese giants are struggling to meet Bayern’s valuation and are instead proposing loan arrangements, an option the Bavarians are keen to avoid.

With limited suitors able to commit to a full transfer, Bayern may soon be forced to reconsider their stance.

Lowering the asking price or eventually accepting a temporary deal could become necessary to secure a move for the defensive midfielder.

Otherwise, the club risks being stuck with Palhinha, who has no clear role in Vincent Kompany’s plans.

The player returned to pre-season training at Säbener Straße on Monday, continuing his wait for clarity on his future while his representatives explore options.

Palhinha enjoyed a solid spell at Fulham before joining Bayern, where he has struggled for regular minutes.

A return to Portugal or a move to another Premier League outfit would offer him much-needed game time and a fresh start.

For Bayern, finding a satisfactory resolution is becoming increasingly urgent as the transfer window progresses.
