Huge offer from Al-Hilal forces Roma out of Summerville deal

AS Roma have been forced to opt out of a deal for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville after Al-Hilal almost doubled their offer.

It seemed the Netherlands international was destined for Rome as West Ham United had reportedly agreed to a €50m deal, but the Saudi giant tabled an offer that almost doubled the deal and tripled the salary to the player.

The Giallorossi were on the brink of finishing off the details of the transfer on Tuesday at just under €50m including add-ons, with a contract worth €4m per season.

However, suddenly Al-Hilal dived in with a huge proposal, blowing them out of the water both for the fee and the personal terms.

The Athletic reported that the package is worth €80m (£68.23m) and a medical is being scheduled with the Saudi Pro League club.

From the look of things, the winger has agreed terms and is also preparing to sign the contract, which sources have at anywhere from €12m to €15m per season, depending on bonuses.

Roma obviously can’t compete with these figures, as they hoped that the chance to play in the Champions League would convince Summerville to accept them, but the Netherlands winger has opted for the money instead.

With such a huge proposal too tempting to turn down for the Netherlands international, who had a good World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, providing two goals and two assists, he is therefore prepared to have his medical and move to Asia.

Last season, Summerville scored seven goals and assisted five in 34 games for West Ham United, but failed to prevent their relegation from the Premier League.

In sporting terms, it’s a good deal for the Hammers, which would provide huge funds to revamp their squad after witnessing a lot of exits due to their relegation from the Premier League.

It’s expected that both parties will shake hands soon, as the paperwork is expected to be completed soon.
