Bayern Munich smashes four to go top of Bundesliga

Bayern Munich dismantled Cologne by four goals to go top of the Bundesliga table with goals from Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman, and Serge Gnabry with three of those goals within the opening 12 minutes.

It was a battle of who will stay on top of the log after RB Leipzig occupied the driving seat on the log with a 3-0 win on Saturday. However, the Bavarians gave a quick response by providing a brilliant performance yet again by defeating the hosts to topple Julian Naggelsman’s side.

The impressive Thomas Muller was the provider for Lewandowski and Kingsley Coman’s goals before Gnabry powered in a shot from Kimmich’s corner.

Twenty-four minutes later, Gnabry added a second of his own as Mark Uth scored a consolation goal for the host. Bayern goes top adrift of Leipzig with just a point after 22 games.

Lewandowski scored his 40th goal for club and country this campaign as he poked in a goal in the third minute after receiving a pass from Muller before rifling it to the roof of the net to make it 12 in 14 against Cologne.

Cologne’s defense was porous as Lewandowski and Muller tore the defense apart as they were all over the home defense, with Gnabry being a constant threat in the wings.  The Bavarians could have added a fourth thanks to the woodwork as Timo Horn pushed Joshua Kimmich’s long-range effort against the bar.

Cologne could have turned things around, but unfortunately, Jhon Cordoba’s goals were denied by the linesman twice for offside.

However, Gnabry should have gone home with the ball with a hattrick, but he wasted the glorious chance after receiving a backheel from the dangerous Muller who could have also gotten a hat trick of assists. But Bayern ran away victors as they continued in their winning ways. They could have the chance to extend their lead at the top if they beat Paderborn on Friday.
