After Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga, goalkeeper Jonas Urbig could be in line to win two titles this season.
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig is eyeing a rare feat after helping Vincent Kompany’s team win the Bundesliga title.
Bayern’s Bundesliga triumph was confirmed on Sunday as Bayer Leverkusen could only draw with Freiburg.
That meant Bayern, who drew 3-3 with RB Leipzig on Saturday, have an unassailable eight-point lead with just two games remaining.
Yet Urbig, who has been filling in for injured veteran Manuel Neuer, could yet win another league title.
Bayern signed the 21-year-old from Koln in January, and with Urbig having made 10 league appearances for his old team this season, he would be able to collect a winners’ medal should his former club go on and win the 2. Bundesliga title.
Koln trail leaders Hamburg by one point with two matches left to play.
Only two players have previously won the top two divisions in Germany in the same season.
They were Pasi Rautiainen with Bayern and Werder Bremen in the 1980-81 season and Frank Hartmann with Bayern and Hannover in the 1986-87 campaign.
With double titles to claim for Urbig, the third choice is Sven Ulreich, who is one of the most trusted goalkeepers in Europe.
For a decade now, Bayern Munich has relied on Ulreich to backup the net for Neuer, and even started several important matches for the club over the years.
The loyalty seems to go both ways as Ulreich is looking to extend his contract with the club for another year.
Ulreich will be extending his contract at Bayern Munich for one more year. Despite Manuel Neuer, the emerging Jonas Urbig, and Daniel Peretz all at the club.
