Borussia Dortmund aiming to break Barcelona jinx in Champions League clash

Borussia Dortmund will be looking to break their winless streak against Barcelona when the two teams meet in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. Dortmund come into the match sat in the automatic qualification spots for the last 16, but with eight teams within two points of them, they can’t afford to rest easy.

The German side has never won a match against Barcelona in their previous four meetings, drawing two and losing two. However, they will be hoping to change their fortunes at home, where they are unbeaten this season across all competitions. Dortmund’s home form has been impressive, with eight wins and one draw, and they will be looking to use this to their advantage against the Catalan giants.

Barcelona, on the other hand, are looking to bounce back from an indifferent run of form. They drew 2-2 with Real Betis at the weekend, squandering a two-goal lead, and will be looking to respond against Dortmund. Manager Hansi Flick admitted that his team had one eye on the Champions League clash, and they will be looking to put in a strong performance.

Dortmund’s young forward Jamie Gittens has been in impressive form, scoring in four successive games and opening the scoring in each of the last three. Barcelona’s Ferran Torres has also been in good form since returning from injury, netting in two of his three games. The match promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams looking to secure a positive result.

The match will be a crucial one for both teams, with Dortmund looking to secure their place in the last 16 and Barcelona aiming to get their campaign back on track. With the two teams separated by just two points in the group standings, the match promises to be a closely contested one.

In terms of statistics, Dortmund have scored the joint-most goals from the 75th minute onwards in the Champions League this season, with six goals. Barcelona, on the other hand, have a tendency to win big on the road, with each of their last six away victories in all competitions coming by a 3+ goal margin.
