Cavani and Van de Beek ruled out of Manchester United’s Europa League clash against Real Sociedad

Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek have been ruled out of their Europa League clash against Real Sociedad with muscle injuries.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the news on Wednesday that the duo won’t be travelling with the squad to Italy after picking up knocks. He also said that Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay are doubtful for the fixture as well, but they will be travelling to Turin along with the squad.

“We have a couple of doubtful ones and we will have to see if they will be fit enough,” Said Solskjaer.

“Anthony (Martial) and Scott (McTominay) we will have to check them tomorrow. Donny (van de Beek) and Edinson (Cavani) definitely not travelling. Donny and Edinson are injured with muscle injuries so they won’t travel.”

The Red Devils boss also gave an update on Paul Pogba’s injury. He said that the France international won’t be seen in action this month following the thigh muscle strain he suffered during the 3-3 draw against Everton.

“Paul is recovering well he is starting the treatment and will still be a few weeks so he won’t be playing in February that’s for sure, still a few weeks until we see Paul definitely.”

Manchester United are taking a 22-man squad to Turin and they will be eager to take the early lead in their first leg of the round of 32 fixture against Sociedad.

As far as the Premier League standings go, the Red Devils are currently sitting at the second spot in the table with 46 points to their name. They are still in the title race but are seven points behind Manchester City, who are enjoying the view from the top of the table.

Manchester United’s squad:

Goalkeepers – De Gea, Henderson, Grant

Defenders – Bailly, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Telles, Tuanzebe, Wan-Bissaka, Williams

Midfielders – Amad, Fernandes, Fred, James, Mata, Matic, McTominay, Shoretire
