Celtic skipper Callum McGregor has insisted that the team remains in the running for the Scottish title race.
The veteran midfielder revealed, however, that they must win at least five or six of their last seven games in order to keep any chance alive of holding on to their title.
The Martin O’Neill-led side has now fallen five points behind the team at the top of the table, which is Heart of Midlothian.
They are also two points behind Rangers, who are their city rivals. The drop happened over the weekend because of an eighth league defeat suffered by the team on Sunday when they were beaten two-nil by Dundee United in an away game at Tannadice.
McGregor described that particular result as the worst day the team has had during either of the two times that Martin O’Neill has been in interim charge this season.
McGregor asked whether the defeat could prove to be fatal to Celtic’s hopes. He replied, saying he does not think so
“It is never good to lose games in football, but there is still plenty of football to be played.
The top five teams are very competitive, and therefore, there are points that can be won in the games that are coming up,” he added.
The team will now have a break for the international fixtures, and then they will play again when they go to Dundee on the fifth of April, which is a Sunday.
The latest defeat made the travelling fans very angry. McGregor thinks that the unusual three-way fight for the title is mainly the result of Celtic not doing as well as they should have done.
Celtic is seventeen points behind the position they had reached by this time in the last season.
Overall, the situation calls for a very strong response from the players as they look to improve their form and challenge for the honors once more in the weeks ahead.
