Chelsea and Liverpool share spoils as Blues sit 11th

Managerless Chelsea was held to a goalless draw by Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in a repeat of the first leg of the fixture at Anfield Stadium in January.

However, unlike the drab goalless draw that both had in January, Chelsea managed to score twice in the game but was unlucky to have had their two goals in each half chopped off by the VAR.

Chelsea last weekend sacked their manager Graham Potter after they lost 2-0 to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. The Blues endured a torrid time under Potter that has seen them consistently stuck in tenth position.

In Tuesday’s fixture, Reece James thought he had given the Blues the lead in the 26th minute, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Kai Havertz also put the ball in the back of the net 5 minutes after the break, but the goal was disallowed for a handball.

However, the German thinks Chelsea should have won the game on the night.

“I think [we should have won], especially in the first half we had load of chances. Second half, I think it was maybe a tie; maybe in the first half, we deserved to score, so in the end, it’s 0-0. With the new technology, it was pretty clear. It is tough. I also scored at Anfield, and it was small margins when it was disallowed. At the end, you have to wait for the VAR, and that is how it is, and I have to accept that.” Havertz said.

Liverpool’s chances of making the UEFA Champions League places now seem increasingly out of task as they now sit in eighth place with seven points away from fourth place.

Chelsea, on the other hand, now drops into 11th position, with Fulham taking over the tenth position, as the Blues now have 39 points in 29 games.
