Chelsea Bolsters Squad with Young Talents from Barcelona and Boca Juniors

Chelsea FC has landed an exciting talent as they have signed 18-year-old striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona on a five-year deal with an additional one-year option. The Premier League club announced this development on Monday, marking a substantial addition to their forward lineup.

Marc Guiu is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and he has shown immense promise since his professional debut. Last October, he made a remarkable entrance to senior football, scoring his first goal within just 33 seconds of play against Athletic Bilbao.

Guiu’s knack for finding the net continued as he scored his first Champions League goal during the group stage against Royal Antwerp. Over his brief tenure with Barcelona’s first team, he made seven appearances, demonstrating his potential at the top level.

The youngster’s international record is equally impressive. Last summer, he was Spain’s joint-top scorer at the European under-17 Championship, netting four goals to show his talent on a continental stage.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Guiu said, “It’s an immense joy to sign for Chelsea, and I struggled to sleep ahead of the journey here because I was so excited. Ever since I was small, it was my dream to play in the Premier League. Now I have the opportunity to come here to Chelsea, and I will work my hardest to be successful for the club.”

Apart from Guiu, Chelsea has reportedly reached an agreement with Argentine giants Boca Juniors to sign 19-year-old defender Aaron Anselmino. According to a source from the Buenos Aires-based club, the deal is valued at $18 million.

Anselmino, who began his career at Boca Juniors at the age of 12, made his first-team debut in 2023. Despite his limited senior experience, with just 10 appearances, Anselmino has drawn attention from top European clubs, including Manchester United and AC Milan.

Chelsea’s agreement with Boca Juniors includes a clause that allows the Argentine club to retain Anselmino for at least six more months, enabling fans to continue enjoying the young centre-back’s performances before his departure to the Premier League.

“The agreement is complete, paperwork is being exchanged. The transfer will be finalised now, but he will stay at Boca,” a source told Reuters, confirming the transaction.

Juan Roman Riquelme, Boca Juniors’ president and former Argentina international, expressed high hopes for Anselmino’s future, stating, “He will become a great footballer and will be a national team player.”

Despite the confirmation from sources, Boca Juniors has not officially disclosed details regarding Anselmino’s transfer. The club did, however, announce the signing of midfielder Tomas Belmonte on the same day, indicating a busy transfer window for the Argentine side.
