Manchester United held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at the Old Trafford as Cristiano Ronaldo scored an equalizer after Marcos Alonso’s 60th-minute strike to put the Blues in the lead.
it was a shocking result for the Blues fans as they expected their team to beat United. The Red Devils are morally down after a couple of heavy losses and Chelsea absolutely missed the opportunity to pile up the misery.
Speaking after the game, Thomas Tuchel singled out Kai Havertz and Timo Werner and felt that the German duo should be doing better with their chances as they missed a few opportunities that came their way. The Blues only went home with a single point after having 21 shots out of which six of them were on target.
Havertz and Werner played up front for Chelsea against United. Havertz came up with the assist for the Alonso goal but other than that had a pretty quiet game, missing two big chances. Werner on the other hand had just one shot on target all night and it was a night to forget for the former RB Leipzig man.
Speaking after the game, Tuchel shared how he was not happy with the forwards missing so many chances. He said, “Yeah we had a lot of chances and I think that two [Werner and Havertz] did not reach their peak performance today. If they did, we run out the winners. That’s it, but we don’t need to point the fingers. We had enough chances, half chances, to score today.”
However, the German tactician is hopeful that both Havertz and Werner will spring back in form very soon. He also feels that the players are young and oe should not be pointing fingers at them as they have been mostly good this season.
“He [Havertz] needs to fight back into his shape. It is like this. Hopefully, he shows a reaction. The guys in the attack are still young and we will not start pointing fingers because lately, they have been very, very composed and very efficient in front of goal.”
Havertz has been in decent form this season for the Blues scoring 13 goals across all competition but he has failed to deliver consistently. He has scored once in the last five matches in the Premier League.
Werner, on the other hand, has scored 11 goals across all competitions and only four of the goals have come in the Premier League.
