Crystal Palace claim historic first European away win

Crystal Palace marked a memorable night in Poland as they secured their first-ever away win in European competition, defeating Dynamo Kyiv 2-0 in their UEFA Conference League group stage opener.

The victory not only set the tone for their continental campaign but also extended their club-record unbeaten run to 19 matches across all competitions.

The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when Daniel Muñoz etched his name into Palace history by becoming the club’s first scorer in major European competition.

His looping header from Yeremy Pino’s superb back-post cross gave Oliver Glasner’s men the perfect start in Lublin.

Palace doubled their advantage just before the hour mark through substitute Eddie Nketiah, who produced a sharp close-range finish after another dazzling bit of play from Pino on the left.

The winger’s two assists underlined his growing influence on the team and sent the travelling support into raptures.

The only setback for the visitors came when full-back Borna Sosa was dismissed in the 76th minute after picking up two yellow cards in the space of three minutes.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Palace’s discipline and organization ensured there was no late drama, with Dynamo Kyiv rarely troubling their backline.

The Ukrainian side, once a dominant force in European football, struggled to live up to their past pedigree, with few clear chances created.

Nketiah might have had a second goal had he not strayed marginally offside, while Daichi Kamada wasted a promising first-half opening with a tame effort easily saved.

At the final whistle, Palace’s 3,500 travelling supporters celebrated a night to remember.

For Glasner and his players, the victory represented more than three points; it was a statement of intent, a record-breaking achievement, and another step forward for a side that continues to grow in stature on both the domestic and European stage.
