Crystal Palace Punish 10-Man Tottenham with First-Half Blitz as Relegation Fears Deepen

Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles intensified in dramatic fashion as Crystal Palace scored three goals in a devastating 12-minute spell to claim a commanding victory in north London. The defeat leaves Spurs hovering just above the relegation zone and extends their winless run in the league to 11 matches.

Tottenham appeared to be on course for a much-needed boost when they took the lead in the 34th minute. England international Dominic Solanke finished from close range after Archie Gray surged down the byeline and delivered a precise cut-back into the box. The goal briefly lifted the home crowd and suggested Spurs might finally halt their alarming run of results.

However, the match changed dramatically just four minutes later. Defender Micky van de Ven misjudged the flight of the ball and pulled down Ismaila Sarr inside the penalty area. The referee awarded a penalty and showed Van de Ven a red card, leaving Tottenham to play the majority of the match with 10 men. It was the team’s fourth red card of the season and proved to be the turning point of the game.

Sarr stepped up to take the spot kick in the 40th minute and calmly sent goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario the wrong way to level the score. The equaliser ignited Crystal Palace, who quickly seized control of the contest.

Just before the break, Palace completed a stunning turnaround. In the first minute of stoppage time, January signing Jorgen Strand Larsen slipped a low shot through Vicario’s legs after receiving a perfectly weighted pass from Adam Wharton. The strike marked his third goal since joining the club and gave Palace the lead.

The visitors were not finished yet. Only minutes later, Sarr struck again to complete the first-half blitz. Another incisive pass from Wharton split the Tottenham defence, allowing Sarr to grab his second goal and put Palace firmly in command.

The rapid collapse triggered a mass walkout from frustrated Tottenham supporters at half-time, reflecting growing anxiety among fans as the club’s season continues to spiral.

Earlier in the game, Palace had already shown their attacking intent. Adam Wharton tested Vicario with a half-volley inside the opening minute after Chris Richards’ long throw caused chaos in the Tottenham area. Palace also had a goal ruled out when Sarr’s deflected strike was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

The result leaves Tottenham 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone and still searching for their first league victory of 2026. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, climb to 13th place and secure consecutive league wins at Tottenham for the first time.
