Daizen Maeda has reignited his form at the perfect moment for Celtic, delivering a timely boost as the club prepares for a major summer rebuild.
The Japanese international scored twice in Celtic’s 3-1 victory over Falkirk, earning special praise from Martin O’Neill. It marked his second consecutive game with a goal and represented his strongest display of the season.
After failing to secure a summer transfer away from the club, Daizen Maeda has clearly been dealing with significant disappointment at not finding a new challenge elsewhere.
This emotional setback has visibly affected his performances and, in turn, cost Celtic on multiple occasions during this campaign.
That said, the Japanese forward now faces a critical opportunity to redeem himself. If Maeda can produce strong showings in the remaining five fixtures, the Hoops will be crowned league champions.
Additionally, consistent high-level performances in this run-in would substantially improve his chances of being included in Japan’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
After struggling for much of the campaign, Maeda has now reached double figures for the season.
His brace at Parkhead showcased the pace, energy, and finishing ability that once made him a key figure in Celtic’s attack.
With a significant squad overhaul expected this summer, the largest since the Ange Postecoglou era, Maeda is widely anticipated to leave the club.
At 28, he is likely to attract strong interest and command a higher transfer fee than many of his teammates.
Unlike some squad members, Celtic would prefer to keep the forward, making him a reluctant sale. However, his recent performances have helped protect and potentially increase his market value.
By continuing to produce decisive contributions in the run-in, Maeda can help secure the title while strengthening Celtic’s negotiating position.
His form ensures the club will be better placed to secure suitable replacement funds and reinvest wisely in the upcoming window.
